From 4-5 September 2014 PACS and the Centre for Health and Social Justice (CHSJ) held a national consultation on health rights in New Delhi. The consultation specifically focussed on the impact that social exclusion has on health rights and how these challenges can be addressed through community action.
Poverty, social exclusion and health rights in India
Studies have shown that poor Indian households have a higher level of disease, spend a higher proportion of family income on health care and receive a lower share of public health care subsidies.
Social exclusion based on identity – such as caste, ethnicity, religion, gender or disability – is a further problem, embedded in Indian society.
